I used the castle image to demonstrate the Split Tone method of altering images.

I opened the image up in Camera Raw. Before I did anything else, I made the following adjustments:

Contrast +25

Highlights +18

White +20

Clarity +40

Vibrance +4

Saturation +24

I then clicked on HSL/Grayscale icon and checked the Conver to Grayscale box.
I then clicked on the Split Tone icon and made the following adjustments:
Saturation +19

Highlights - hue 216, saturation 60

Shadow - hue 90, saturation 14

Balance 33

I then opened the image up in Photoshop. I used the Patch tool to eliminate both birds and the contrails.

No further adjusments were made.
